Chelsea Constable - jtkung - 07-08-2018 Wow -- her rendition of Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover is the closest thing I have heard to the master himself -- both in tone and note precision. Incredible! I tried to get the settings of how she gets this tone from the video. The echo and reverb are in the effects loop of the Suhr Hedgehog. And the 2x12 Suhr cab has Celestion G12-65s in it. Suhr Classic Pro Bridge --> TC Dark Matter --> Suhr Hedgehog 50--> Suhr 2x12 --> 2 mics (large condenser) Effects loop: Alter Ego --> HOF Reverb Suhr Bridge pickup Dark Matter Gain = max Level = 10a Bass = 10a Treble = 8-9a Voice = down Alter Ego Time = 2p Level = 10a Feedback = noon Type - CKAT (Watkins copykat) HOF Reverb Decay = 10a Tone = 2p FX Level = 10a Type = PLATE Suhr Hedgehog 50 Controls going left to right Presence = 9a Level = 9a Drive = 9a Level = 10a Bass = 11a Middle = 11a Treble = 9-10a Volume = 9-10a Note how the treble and bass settings are never really past noon. With the treble usually cut more than the bass. This is the secret on how EJ gets such a smooth violin-like tone. By using a pickup that has lots of treble, then boosting it a lot into distortion stages that dial back the treble. This is evident if you look at the tone controls of his lead channel and effects signal chain. The tube driver has the bass EQ maxed out, with the treble relatively low. And the '68 100W Plexi has the treble at ZERO! With the volume nearly maxed out... |
