I’ve showcased Tyler Wells’ guitars in the past, but often times I’ll revisit luthiers to showcase some of the newer things going on.
I really love the design and construction of his Fugue model. What caught my attention is the guitar he showed at NAMM that had a unique and amazing finish.
Here are the specs:
- Standard Fugue Specs
- Alaskan Yellow Cedar top
- Sapele Back and Sides
- 3 piece Sipo Mahagony Neck with Tapered Laminations
- Ebony Fingerboard and Hardware
- Gilded Copper Leaf with chemical patina finish
- Copper Position Markers and Headstock Inlay
- Custom Floating Kent Armstrong pickup with LHT logo
- Gotoh 510 mini tuners
- Hardshell case
I like the enthusiasm and spirit in seeking new ways to enhance the guitar’s already beautiful nature. The use of exotic and highly figured woods with eye-popping transparent finishes is a great thing, but the guitars all start looking the same with this finish technique. I look forward to new techniques like what’s shown here by Tyler, and hopefully more luthiers explore this.
