There are a few trends in modern guitars that are starting to take hold:
- Multi-scale
- Headless
- 7-string
Strandberg* has gotten much notoriety for this, but others such as Oakland Axe Factory have been doing this for years. The guitar shown here was built by Tom Drinkwater of Oakland Axe Factory and designed by Eric of Xen Stringed Instruments as part of the OAF/XEN autumn run in 2013. I really like the body shape and design. Here are the specs:
- 7-string
- Fanned frets 25,5″ – 27″
- Endurneck (licenced by Strandberg guitarworks)
- Swamp Ash body
- Ebony top
- Macassar Ebony neck
- Birdseye Maple fretboard
- Black hardware
- Lace pickups
- Dunlop recessed straplocks
- Luminlay sidedots and offset dots
Overall, this is a great example of where multi-scale, headless guitars are going.
