Sort of explains why so many siblings have musical tastes that follow either the parents or the older siblings. It's the immersion that trains you. University was my training ground ... and thankfully was introduced to so many great rock, jazz, and classical artists. And to the people who shared the same tastes.
So one conclusion is -- if musical taste is formed due to the culture surrounding you -- can you not use it to infer one's past background, surroundings, and culture? This sort of correlates well with this chart below. As I have always said -- you are the company you keep!
