I wonder if this would still be true with a much larger sample size. Still,the sample size here is not insignificant and doesn't seem out of realm of possibility. Since it only covers SAT scores, it means a specific segment of the population. It doesn't cover older folks and it doesn't cover people who did not go to college.  

Take a look and compare Beethoven vs Beyonce. Is this a surprise?  Not in my experience ...
